Initiatives
Throughout the
years, Sharek has implemented a variety of activities and projects.
Although most of Sharek's activities have come to fall under one of its
core programs, Sharek is from time to time, and in response to emerging
needs, implementing additional initiatives and awareness
campaigns. Moreover, as part of its commitment towards the
Millennium Development Goals, Sharek organizes specific events or
activities on the occasion of international days, such as those
for youth, volunteers and poverty eradication.
Initiatives
English Unit Gaza Strip
In June
2005 Sharek established an English Unit in the Gaza Strip. It responds
to the needs of graduates and other young people interested in improving
their English language outside the formal education environment. The
Unit runs two clubs; Sharek English Club (SEC) and Palestinian English
Students Club (PESC). Besides regular club meetings, English and other
language courses are also organized.
Esmek
ya Bladi Competition (2006)
For the
Esmek ya Bladi competition Sharek joined the Palestinian Social
Committee in Abu Dhabi. It was the first time Palestinian
people were encouraged to participate by submitting a creative piece of
art, or digital art, about their thoughts of the word “Palestine” under
the motto "Beloved is Our Nation". Sharek was hereby functioning as a
focal point in Palestine. Sharek, in cooperation with its volunteers,
promoted the competition in educational institutions in the West Bank
and Gaza Strip, advertised “Esmek ya Bladi” through radio and TV,
distributed posters and organized some workshops and activities in
schools about the competition. Sharek managed to reach out to many
Palestinian artists and institutions and received a great amount of
artistic contributions. At Sharek’s website a link was created to the
Al-Bayyara website about “Esmek ya Bladi”.
Baladna Ahla activities (2006)
“Beautiful Cities” was implemented early 2006 over a very short period
of time. The activities in Ramallah and Hebron even started in late
December 2005. Enormous cleaning and painting activities were carried
out by large groups of youth volunteers in 9 big cities in the West Bank
and Gaza Strip. After the efforts, the cities looked bright and
beautiful again! Participating in Baladna Ahla gave volunteers a
feeling of responsibility towards their country. Also, the volunteer
work had provided them with an opportunity to meet new people and learn
from each other’s experiences.
